ROSALÍA - AUNQUE ES DE NOCHE
Rosalía is one of a kind. At only 24 years of age she is one of the great promises of contemporary flamenco music. With just one album on the market (Los Ángeles, Universal, 2017), she combines her knowledge of traditional music with modern influences and collaborations with artists like C.Tangana or La Fura dels Baus in order to break the rules of the traditional flamenco.
She comissioned us to design the cover of her second single Aunque es de noche.
We asked photographer Carlota Guerrero to develop the project, having worked with her on the Solange album, as she had already worked with Rosalía. Starting from a reference by US photographer Duane Michals, we decided to continue with the initial concept that gave rise to the Los Angeles album - death, loss, absence and the mark of that absence.
The single was released exclusively on digital, so we created connections to the aesthetic world of the LP using black and white and the artist's image as an 'absent presence'. The composition refers to memento mori or vanitas paintings in which objects remind us of the fragility of life and the fleeting nature of our time on earth.
